Brain and Body Group Fitness Program

The Brain & Body Group Fitness Program is an evidence-informed program that has been shown to improve physical fitness and mood in people living with dementia and their caregivers.  It is a safe, effective, and fun program taught by qualified and trained YMCA staff and incorporates physical and brain health exercises and social engagement. The program is offered three times a year including a winter/spring, summer, and fall/winter 12-week semesters at a variety of locations and virtually.   For more information, contact the ADRC.

Chippewa Valley Memory Café

The memory cafes offer a comfortable way for you and your care partner to have fun and socialize with others who have Mild Cognitive Impairment, early to moderate Alzheimer's or related dementias, and those who worry about memory problems. You can expect social connections with others having a similar experience, peer support, valuable information and education, a relaxed and stigma-free environment, laughter, hands-on programs and presentations, new friends, and delicious refreshments.

The café meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 10:00 – 11:00 at the Chippewa Valley Museum in Carson Park.

If you are living with memory loss or have been diagnosed with early stage Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia, you are not alone! Join peers who understand what you are doing through for support, information, and education.  You should be aware of your memory loss, have the ability to share with others, and take part in discussion.  You and your care partner meet together and then separate into groups.  The Early Stage Support group meets the last Wednesday of each month from 1:30 – 3:00 at Lake Street Methodist Church and/or virtually.  Contact the ADRC for location.

Musical Memories changes the lives of people living with dementia through personalized music. Designed for individuals with dementia and their caregivers. The person living with dementia will be given an iPod loaded with their favorite music, a charger and headphones. This is then a tool that the caregiver can use to help with relaxation/entertainment/distraction/reducing agitation for their loved one with dementia.

People in the early to mid-stages of memory loss, their care partners, and singing volunteers come together to share their love of music! Stand in the Light Memory Choir uses the power of singing to move people with memory loss and their care partners to rediscover themselves, make friends, laugh together, and contribute to their community. No musical experience is necessary to participate.

Recording of I Won’t Forget: Memories and Music with the Stand in the Light Memory Choir and Nordic Choir from Luther College

You can be connected to research studies that attempt to further understand the causes and possible treatments for Alzheimer’s and other dementias through the Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Institute (WAI). Contact the Dementia Care Specialist for more information.

Reminiscing on the Ranch is a program offered by Trinity Equestrian Center in which adults living with dementia and their care partners have the opportunity to enjoy the horses through care taking, grooming, and an array of nature-based, stimulating activities on the Ranch.  Four-week programs are offered throughout the year at no cost.  Contact Trinity Equestrian Center for more information.
