The Patrol Division is often called the backbone of the Sheriff’s Office. Patrol deputies are the most visible division of the Sheriff's Office and are generally the first agency called for the needs of rural Eau Claire County. Patrol personnel are first responders to medical emergencies, traffic crashes, crimes against persons and property, as well as serving as a deterrent to those who may commit violations on highways and in your neighborhoods. By performing these tasks, the patrol division provides the primary response for all emergency services provided by the Sheriff’s Office.

There are 19 patrol deputies and four supervisors who work in the division. Many of the deputies have specialties such as drug and alcohol enforcement and investigation, crash investigation, equipment enforcement, and SWAT. Each patrol car is equipped to handle the deputy’s needs as well as the emergent needs of the community- from BAND-AIDs to a defibrillation unit.

The office assists all other law enforcement agencies operating within the county. This includes all local police departments, Wisconsin State Patrol, the Department of Natural Resources and the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
