GIS Program Overview

Many of Eau Claire County's most basic and essential services rely on accurate and up-to-date land information which is stored and managed within the Geographic Information System (GIS). These services include:

  • Emergency response
  • Natural resource conservation
  • Infrastructure planning
  • Economic development
  • Regulatory inspection

GIS has emerged as the most appropriate technology for storing, identifying, searching, and analyzing massive volumes of geographic and tabular data.

The GIS Division is responsible for administering all aspects of the county’s GIS program including:

  • Technical Planning,
  • Data Management,
  • Map Creation,
  • Geographic Analysis

Duties and Services of the GIS Division:

  • Provide geographic information to the public via the web -

  • Development & maintenance of other GIS data including:
    • Zoning
    • Land Use
    • Political Districts
    • Annexations
  • Aerial photography procurement
  • LiDAR (light detection and ranging) procurement & processing
  • Technical GIS support across all county departments
