About:

Supervisor Leary holds a B.A. in History with a minor in Business from UW-Eau Claire. She served as an Administrative Assistant 4 at UW-Eau Claire for 42 years, including 35 years as the Assistant Secretary of the UWEC Foundation, Inc., where she worked in accounting and public relations. She chaired the Eau Claire Democratic Party for three terms in the 1980s and 1990s, a role that required public speaking and organizational planning skills. She was also the Treasurer of the Eau Claire Area Labor Council for 27 years.

Additionally, she served as a citizen member on the City of Eau Claire Affirmative Action Committee for four years and has been on the WI Land and Water Board for 11 years, appointed by Governor Doyle and confirmed by the WI State Senate. Notably, during a period when the Republican majority was delaying approvals for Democratic members, she successfully lobbied across the aisle to become the first Democratic appointee approved in about 18 months.

She has been active in various community organizations, including the United Way Allocations Committee, the American Business Women's Association, and America's Promise. Finally, she was elected in 2022 as the Vice President and President Elect of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Emeriti and Retirees Association and assumed the President’s position in May 2024 for 2024-2025.
